Birdie
Birdie is a slender, athletic, gorgeous female Doberman who we feel is about 4 or 5 years old. She is black/rust with a docked tail and cropped ears. Sometimes her ears stand, sometimes one stands, and most of the time they are relaxed. She came into animal control as a stray so we have no history on her. When we rescued her she weighed 58 lbs. and was pretty thin. She's up to 66 lbs. and this is the perfect weight for her.
Birdie is just about the sweetest and most affectionate dog you could hope for. She is always happy and always ready to cuddle and absorb as much attention as you will shower on her. She walks very well on a leash and is not reactive to other dogs. If a squirrel or chipmunk gets too close she will try to chase it. She loves to play with toys and doesn't destroy them, except for tennis balls. She needs a sturdier ball.
Birdie loves to play and plays very well with male dogs. She wants to play with females too, but if she gets overly aroused she can get kind of snappy with females. We feel like the best home for her would be with a playful male dog of similar size. She does play rough. Her prey drive is too high to place into a home with a cat.
Birdie is housebroken and very well behaved in the house. She is crate trained and will sometimes just go lay in her crate with a favorite toy.
When we got Birdie she had 2 very large pressure sores on her hips and a large growth on her chest - about the size of an orange. All of these were surgically removed. The vet said none of it was cancerous and felt the growth was either a skin tag or pressure sore that got out of control. She has some callouses that indicate she spent many hours lying on a hard surface. We don't want to place her into a home where she will be alone for hours. She would not be happy.
Birdie has been spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $350. Her adopter must live within an hour's drive of Atlanta, give or take a little. If you are interested in adopting Birdie, please email us.
